Jester Educational Theater performs musicals about math and social studies.
Typically we partner with five schools for a year. In the fall we bring a social studies musical to perform for grades three through five. In the spring, Kindergarten through second grade get their chance to see a math musical.
A week before the performance, each teacher receives a packet of materials to help prepare the class for the performance.
On the day of the show, our group jets in about an hour before curtain. The JET Team consists of a production manager, one to six musicians and four to six performers. We load in, warm up, get in costume, do a sound check, run a song–and then the kids come in and curtain up!
Music, comedy, dance and learning ensue.
Following the performance, the Jesters visit selected classrooms to continue working their magic by leading classes in drama activities to explore the content of the show. We visit four to six classes and have a blast working directly with children in a fun drama setting.
JET follows up with teachers at a later date to chat about how our collaboration contributed to their student’s success that year.
