“The Revolutionary Revue”

 

OVERVIEW
One hour in length.
Six performers; each performer plays multiple roles.
Five-musician band.
Uncle Sam hosts one hour of music, drama, dance, and comedy describing life in the American Colonies and events that led to the founding of our nation.
This show was written by Kevin Muir long before “Hamilton,” originally for his own class of fifth graders to perform as their social studies. It is now performed at a professional level.

PERFORMANCES

Who We Perform For: This is children’s musical theater–a universe far removed from performing before adults in the Gershwin Theater in Manhattan, and it is highly rewarding.  Our performers are Rock Stars in the eyes of the kids. We perform in Title 1 grade schools, which is to say, grade schools that are rich in linguistic and ethnic diversity. Many of the kids in our audience have never seen a musical–certainly not a live musical–before we visit. For most of the kids, our  performance is a foundational educational experience. We also have short talk-backs with the kids immediately after the show. “The Revolutionary Revue” is performed for grades 3-5.

Performances will be on five consecutive Thursdays: Feb 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23.
We will perform 2 shows/day in east Portland-area schools for a total of ten performances. A.M. and P.M. shows will be in different schools.

Pay is $23/hour in rehearsal; $176 for a double-performance day, slighly less if we end up with a single-performance day.
